About You
Yeah, you.
I couldn't help but notice a few things about you:
Every website you visit can see this stuff. I'm just being upfront about it.
So... yeah, you have no privacy online
All of this can be combined into a browser fingerprint, a unique identifier that follows you across every website, across a collection of IP addresses, devices, and browsers. No logins or cookies needed, but they do help! Even incognito mode doesn't help.
What actually helps
- VPN. Masks your real IP. Mullvad or ProtonVPN are trustworthy and also can be paid for without a credit card.
- Brave or Firefox + uBlock Origin. This helps thwart the simplest fingerprinting techniques that sites rely on to track you by blocking 3rd party scripts and randomizing or obfuscating browser information. The Mullvad Browser also pads the screen size to common sizes so sites can less easily fingerprint you by your screen size.
- Cookies are not your friend. They tell people where you are and where you have been.
- For real anonymity: Tor Browser. Makes every user look identical. The only tool that actually defeats fingerprinting; however, many sites block users from it since they CAN’T tell who you are.
Last of all, don’t click sketchy links.
